The Fall of the Assassin Order began in 2000, when Daniel Cross unwillingly assassinated The Mentor, Grand Master of the Assassin Order. With this it left the Assassins at a vulnerable state, as the Mentor would overseer and coordinator of the actions within the Order. Abstergo, the modern embodiment of the Templars, gained information on ascertaining every Assassin training camp in the worldwide, causing a global evacuation of every compound.

The Abduction

When Daniel Cross was younger he was abducted by Abstergo Industries, who performed anesthetized surgery on him, exploring his memories and burying within him, somehow, an impulse that would force him to kill the Master of the Assassins whenever the opportunity would come. This plan was known as Animus Project Subject 4. He was later released into the world wearing nothing but his underwear and was picked up by a man named Luke and his partner.

Ingratiation

After several years of a crime-filled life, Daniel was found by Hannah Mueller who took him to an Assassin compound to meet with Paul Bellamy, a senior in the Order. After returning to his home, Daniel experienced an intense Bleeding Effect, where he saw the past, the present and the future. It also unlocked within him the strong desire to find the Mentor. Not knowing how, he had found his life's purpose.

The Mentor

After two years of training his mind and body, and of searching for the Mentor, Daniel was brought to Dubai where he finally met him. The Mentor told him that he had heard of Daniel's visions, and believed that he would be very unique value. He also implied that he would choose Daniel as his successor. He then presented Daniel his Hidden Blade, telling him that he had "earned it" and fully initiated him into the Assassin Order.

As soon as he put it on, Daniel felt as if he was made to wear and use it. And then, suddenly, Daniel recalled his memories from Abstergo, being experimented upon by Warren Vidic, having the impulse to kill the Mentor buried so deep within him that he hadn't realized it until the time had come, of Bellamy and Hannah telling him to unleash whatever was inside of him and of being given a new name; Daniel Cross.

Acting on the impulse, Daniel assassinated the Mentor.

The Fall

Subsequently following the assassination of the Mentor, Daniel returned to Abstergo's Research Facility in Philadelphia. With the information retrieved from Daniel, who had visited every single Assassin training camp in the world, Abstergo mobilized tactical teams to initiate strikes on Assassin compounds globally. This forced the Assassins to evacuate their respective bases and go into hiding.
