The '''Grand Master''' is the highest rank in the Assassins order. It is the most important rank and grants full command of the brotherhood.

At the end of Altair's quest, he killed Al Mualim and took on the role of Grand Master of the Assassins. Al Mualim was a Templar and wanted the 9 most powerful Templars dead because he wanted the Piece of Eden to ensure absolute peace in the world, as he says to Altair in his dying words.
By 1190, the Grand Master of the Syrian sect was [[Al Mualim]], who ruled from the Assassins' fortress in [[Masyaf]], within the [[Kingdom|Kingdom of the Holy Land]]. The following year, after the revelation of Al Mualim's membershi within the [[Knights Templar]] and subsequent death, the title was taken by his executioner [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]], who would utilise his [[Piece of Eden]] to fashion himself an incredibly strong, yet lightweight set of "Grand Master robes"<ref name="Assassin's Creed II"> ''[[Assassin's Creed II]]''</ref>.


Altair was drawn to the Apple aswell, as can be read in the Codex Pages he wrote, in one of the pages he made an armour that was lighter than a feather but stronger than the feather itself, Altair erased the context of the page but left a picture to show how well he did this so the Templars couldn't replicate it. The armour is the same a the '''Golden Fleece''' from '''page 19''' of the '''Codex.'''
It is unknown who took the title of Grand Master following Altaïr, though by the late 15<sup>th</sup> Century the famed poet [[Niccolò Machiavelli]] seemed to have adopted this position within the Order<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" />.

The title of Grand Master was the highest rank attainable within the Order of Assassins; the most important rank, it granted the bearer full control over their sect of the Order[1].
