The Golden Mask is an item that features in a mission in sequence 9 of Assassin's Creed II. The mask grants any civilian exclusive access to Marco Babarigo's carnevale party. In the final mission of sequence 9 of AC2, Ezio must pickpocket the mask off of Dante Moro (Marco's bodyaguard) in order to enter the party and assassinate Marco.
How to Obtain
Once Ezio completes the four Carnivale challenges, (in the challenge that he defeats the Templar Soldiers and Dante Moro in a rigged fight,) he was supposed to receive the Golden Mask as the reward, but Silvio Barbarigo bribed the Carnivale announcer to give the mask to Dante instead.
Ezio, Antonio and Sister Teodora plan on how to take the mask back. Ezio suggests killing Dante, but Antonio says to steal the mask from him using Sister Teodora's girls to distract him as killing Dante will surely cancel the party altogether. Sister Teodora also warns that before he even thinks of forging a replica, each mask is numbered to prevent unauthorized access with copies.
Once you steal the mask, it goes into effect once you enter Marco Barbarigo's party. Ezio must become hidden from the Templar guards as well as Dante while they search for Ezio and the mask. Then he can be killed with the Hidden Gun.
Masks in Assassin's Creed II:
In Assassin's Creed 2 during sequence 9, there are two carnevale masks that Ezio wears in order to become incognito and assassinate Marco Babarigo.
The plain carnevale mask:
This is given to Ezio on the first mission of sequence 9. It is given to Ezio as a spare from Leonardo Da Vinci, the same mission in which Leonardo gives Ezio his pistol augmentation for his blade. Once given the mask, Ezio cannot take it off for the rest of sequence 9. The purpose of the mask is that it turns Ezio incognito after the assassination of the late doge of Venice.
The golden mask:
The golden mask grants any civilian special access to Marco Babarigo's canevale party. Marco is the new doge of Venice and is one of Ezio's assassination targets. Ezio therefore needs to obtain the golden mask. Ezio obtains the mask originally by completeing a series of four canrevale games, but in the end Ezio simply needs to pickpocket the mask from Dante Moro.
Trivia
- The Golden Mask is only used during this mission.
- Several Pedestrians around the Dorsoduro district of Venice can be seen wearing the Golden Mask, but they will not drop it if killed or pickpocketed.
- The Golden Mask is the second and last mask Ezio wears in Assassin's Creed II, the first one being a plain silver one given to him by Leonardo to help disguise him during the Venice Carnevale.
- The mask is also known as a Bauta because it is a full mask that hides the whole face.
- During this memory, your notoriety becomes notorious. After killing Marco Barbarigo, dye your cloths to completely empty your notoriety level and return to incognito.
- If you go back to the entrance of the Venice Carnevale, you will hear Silivio and Agostino Barbarigo argue. It's unknown when this will happen, either it occurs after Marco is killed or before.
