Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526 or 1527 – 11 July 1593) was an Italian painter known for making portrait heads made of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books.
His surreal portrait of Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II, Vertumnus, ended up in the possession of Peter Beckford by the early 18th century. It was later stolen by the pirate Edward Kenway.
