The Gilded Shield was an effective though ostentatious light shield with unclear origins, with some saying it was looted from a vault and others that it was custom made.

During the Viking expansion into Anglo-Saxon England in the 9th century, the shield was made available to the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan through an Animus modification by Layla Hassan, an Assassin who relieved her memories in 2020.[1]
