Fort Jefferson was a fortification erected by United States Army soldiers in October 1791 during the Northwest Indian War.[1] The next month, General Arthur St. Clair led the army's retreat to the fort following its substantial losses fighting a coalition of Miami, Shawnee, and Lenape forces near the Wabash River.[2]
