Eris or Discordia , as she was called in Ancient Rome, was the Ancient Greek and Roman goddess of strife and discord.
According to mythology, Eris was the only goddess not invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. After arriving, she went into a rage and threw the Apple of Discord - in fact an Apple of Eden - amongst the "goddesses" (Minerva, Juno, and Aphrodite), marked "To the Fairest", which led to a quarrel between the three. Jupiter sent the three to Paris of Troy, who chose Aphrodite to be the fairest. As a reward, Aphrodite had Helen fall in love with Paris and she moved to Troy, which enraged Helen's husband Menelaus and led to the Trojan War.
