Eplimelides of Thebes (died 362 BCE), alternatively Epaminondas, was a Theban general and statesman who transformed the Ancient Greek city-state of Thebes, leading it out of Spartan subjugation into a pre-eminent position in Greek politics.
Eplimelides was known for his liberation of Messenia from Spartan rule after the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE. To this end, he renamed the seaport town of Aipeia to Korone.[1]
