A 5th century BCE mural featuring Akteon

Akteon was a Thebian huntsman hero in Greek mythology. He was a pupil of the centaur Chiron, who trained Achilles generations later.

Biography[edit | edit source]

According to legend, Akteon witnessed the goddess Artemis bathing naked. For this transgression, he was devoured by his own dogs.[1]

After his death, an oracle ordered his remains to be buried and a statue erected at the site where he died, with sacrifices being conducted annually.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The mural featuring Akteon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is based on the reconstruction of Polygnotos' Nekyia.
