Akteon was a Thebian huntsman hero in Greek mythology. He was a pupil of the centaur Chiron, who trained Achilles generations later.
Biography
According to legend, Akteon witnessed the goddess Artemis bathing naked. For this transgression, he was devoured by his own dogs.[1]
After his death, an oracle ordered his remains to be buried and a statue erected at the site where he died, with sacrifices being conducted annually.[1]
Behind the scenes
The mural featuring Akteon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is based on the reconstruction of Polygnotus' Nekyia.
