Aigisthos, also transliterated as Aegisthus, was a King of Mycenae in Greek mythology.

During his lifetime, Aigisthos owned a palace that, by the 5th century BCE, had sunk off the coast of Argolis. This palace was explored by the Spartan misthios Kassandra during the Peloponnesian War.[1]

Trivia

  • In Greek mythology, Aigisthos was the lover of Klytaimnestra, Agamemnon's wife and sister to Helen of Troy. The two killed Agamemnon upon his return from Troy, to avenge the sacrifice of Iphigenia ten years earlier. He was later killed by Orestes, Agamemnon's son.
