The Zhengde Emperor [sic] (1491-1521) was the 10th Ming dynasty Emperor of China who ruled from 1505 to 1521. He started a fashion amongst Emperors by not attending seriously to the affairs of state, preferring to enjoy a life of leisure, outside the walls of the Forbidden City, amongst prostitutes, enjoying exotic animals and alcohol, and did not hesitate to condemn opponents to a painful death.
