Ahmad bin Said al-Busaidi (1710 – 1783) was the first ruler of Oman of the Al-Said dynasty.

During the Seven Years' War, Colonial Templar Shay Cormac sent an envoy to Mombasa to extend the Templars' friendship and cooperation to Ahmad bin Said al-Busaidi.[1] His fleet returned from the city bearing a portrait of the Sultan, which he hung at his home in Fort Arsenal.[2] Ahmad named the envoy a friend of the Omani and, some time later, they returned to Mombasa for another visit.[3]

Behind the scenes

Though the image purports itself to be a portrait of Ahmad bin Said al-Busaidi, it instead is a portrait of Said bin Sultan, his grandson.[4]
