An incredibly rare mineral, mythical by [[Modern times|today]]'s standards, [[Silica]] was somewhat more commonplace in [[Svartálfaheimr|Svartalfheim]], where [[Dwarf|dwarves]] would mine for it and use refineries powered by their mills (or 'mylnas') to somehow activate or 'awaken' the Silica.<br><br>While the specifics of the science are lost on [[Shaun Hastings|me]], what's clear is that the awakened Silica was seemingly an energy source, akin to a battery, and was apparently very desirable to the invading [[Muspels]].<br><br>But what utterly fascinates me is the notion that the Silica can retain these awakened properties for millennia, as seen from the few pieces to appear in Ancient [[Egypt]].
