The Roman Forum was a rectangular plaza that was surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings. It was situated in the center of Roma and the citizens of that time referred to it as the Forum Magnum or simply the Forum.
For centuries, the Roman Forum was the center of the Roman public life. The site was used for several events such as public speeches, criminal trials and gladiatorial matches. It was also known as the epicenter of commercial affairs. The site was also populated with the statues and monuments of the city's great men.
