The favorite concubine of Al-Mutawakkil, Qabiha rose from being a nameless slave to the coveted position of Umm Walad: mother of the Caliph's son. Charismatic and intelligent, a patroness of art, science and business, Qabiha skillfully managed rivals, collected followers and inspired loyalty as leader of the Caliph's Harem.
