A coprior of the convent of Montfaucon, Esquieu had been imprisoned at the same time as a renegade Templar. Esquieu and this unnamed Templar confided in each other, whereupon the Templar allegedly revealed a great many vices and misdeeds within the Order.
Upon the strength of this "evidence," the Order of the Poor Knights of the Temple of Solomon, the Knights Templar, were rounded up and destroyed.
