The Afon Blockade was a Saxon-guarded blockade that was located on the Afon River in northwestern Hamtunscire.
History
In 878, the last leader of the Sons of Ragnar, Ubba Ragnarsson, and his men were ambushed and killed by Lord Odda under Alfred's orders while they were positioned at the blockade awaiting military orders.[1] Jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan searched the area and found her dead ally, along with evidence of Alfred and Reeve Goodwin's roles in Ubba's death.[2] She subsequently destroyed the chain, allowing any ship to pass on the river.[3]
