Christopher Newport (1561–1617) was an English seaman and privateer. Serving as the captain of the Susan Constant, a ship which carried settlers to the Jamestown settlement in the colony of Virginia, he also had two other vessels under his initial command, the Godspeed and the Discovery.[1]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
In 1711, the Royal Navy privateer-recruiter Dylan Wallace mentioned Newport among other great privateers, in an effort to convince the sheep-farmer Edward Kenway to join up,[2] which prompted him to later board the Emperor.[3]
