Cheimonas of the Sacred Watch (died c. 420s BCE) was a mercenary who operated in Greece during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
Cheimonas was once the oldest member of a group of mercenaries known as the Sacred Watch. He was always on the front lines of battle and was always the last to leave. The Sacred Watch was once a group of noble defenders, but then the call for drachmae had driven all its members, including Cheimonas himself, to collecting easy bounties across the world.
During the Peloponnesian War he crossed paths with the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who had received a bounty placed on him.[1]
Trivia
- Χειμώνας (cheimónas) is Greek word meaning 'winter'.
