The Captain's Sword was a sword of moderate power prevalent throughout Italy during the Renaissance.
History
In the latter half of the 15th century, it was supplied by many blacksmiths in their shops across cities such as Florence, Venice, Forlì, San Gimignano, and Monteriggioni.[1] By 1500, however, the sword had become a specialty item of blacksmiths in Rome, requiring that it be traded for three terracotta pots, two totems, and two Buddhist prayer beads.[2] By the spring of 1504, the Assassin Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze had acquired this sword, using it when he was ambushed in the countryside by bandits en route to Florence.[3] In 1511, a Captain's Sword was added to the armory of the Assassin headquarters in Constantinople during Ezio's time with the Ottoman Brotherhood of Assassins.[4]
