Bruno was spy operating under Niccolò Machiavelli's direction during the liberation of Rome. After the death of Rodrigo Borgia and the imprisonment of his son Cesare, Machiavelli ordered all his spies to locate the remaining Borgia diehards in the Roman countryside.
Bruno soon returned to Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Machiavelli and informed them that several Borgia diehards had kidnapped Ezio's sister Claudia. Infuriated, Ezio and Machiavelli went to the house Bruno had mentioned and entered it, only to find themselves ambushed by the diehards, heavily outnumbered and with Claudia being held hostage.
