Britomartis is a goddess of mountains and hunting in Greek mythology. She was often conflated or syncretized with Artemis.
The worship of Britomartis was most notable on the island of Krete. A mountain in the Dikte Plateau of Pephka was considered connected to her, and in Little Egypt of Messara was a temple dedicated to her, which the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited during the Peloponnesian War.[1]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Diktynna, 'The Lady of the Nets', is an alternative name of Britomartis, derived from the Greek word δίκτυον (díktuon), meaning '(fishing/hunting) net'.
