The Battle of the 300 Champions, also known as the Battle of the Champions, was a battle fought between the Greek city states of Sparta and Argos.
The battle, which both states agreed to pit 300 of their best men against each other, was won by Sparta. The Spartans would then adopt the distinctive custom of growing their hair long to commemorate their victory.
