The Battle of Gibeon Blade was a khopesh used by the infantry of Pharaoh Shoshenq I during the invasion of Gibeon.
Description
The Battle of Gibeon Blade was, like all khopesh, a sword which evolved from the sickle used for agriculture. Identical to the Khopesh Sword adapted from the Canaanites, it had a wider guard compared to other khopeshes and a darker blade.
History
In the 10th century BCE, the sword that would come to be known as the Battle of Gibeon Blade was standard service for the infantry under Shoshenq, the founder of the Twenty-second Dynasty of Egypt. It therefore earned its name from his campaigns in Canaan, specifically from an assault on the city of Gibeon.
By the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty, this make of khopesh was still in circulation in the markets of Egypt.
