Basilica Giulia

The Basilica Giulia (English: Basilica Julia) is a structure that once stood in the Roman Forum.

It was a large, ornate, public building used for meetings and other official business during the early Roman Empire.

History

Initially dedicated by Gaius Julius Caesar in 46 B.C.E., the Basilica's construction was funded by the spoils of the Gallic War. Completed some years later by Augustus, he named the building after his father. It was used mostly as a court of civil law as well as for sessions of the Centumviri who presided over matter of inheritance.[1]
