The Bab Ariha, also known as the Gate of Jericho, was one of the eight ancient gates in the wall of Jerusalem. As the main entrance to the city which directly led into its Rich District, it was the most heavily guarded gate.
Behind the scenes
Bab Ariha is Arabic, composed of the words باب (bab), meaning 'door, gate', and أريحا, (ariha), meaning 'scent'.
The gate is fictional but its design is a hybrid between the Damascus Gate and Lions' Gate in Jerusalem. However, this is anachronistic as the Damascus Gate was built in 1537 and Lions' Gate in 1538–39 in reality.
