Assassinate is an online multiplayer mode in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. It was added with the Animus Project Update 3.0 downloadable content, and is currently one of the most popular multiplayer game modes available.

Starting Information

This game mode is a free-for-all game mode which requires players to differentiate NPC to Player, and therefore kill their chosen target. Players only acculate points if successful Player Targets have been chosen. Players do not get points for choosing and then killing civilians. If fact, if a Player kills a civilian in sight of a Player, they are vulnerable to their attacks, and therefore make them a target.

Targeting

At the start of the game, players are given a modified manhunt compass that shows all players near you. In order to obtain a contract, you must use the lock system to lock on to persona to initiate a contract with them. The character of the target will then appear in the upper-right corner of the screen along with a detection meter. Once the contract has been established, the Manhunt-like compass will be replaced with the regular Wanted compass and will start tracking your chosen target.

You must always be careful that you pick the right persona to assassinate. You can lock on to other NPCs by mistake, and kill them will expose you to other nearby players and you will instantly be targeted and assassinated.

Pursuers

Pursuers are obtain in this mode if you are locked on by another player. When they lock you will start glowing red along with the Red Triangle Counter lighting up. In this mode you can theoretically have up to 7 Pursuers. Unlike in Wanted, no matter what place you are in terms of your score, you are bound to have pursuers on you once locked on.

A very special feature in this game mode is called “Exposing”. When you are locked on by your pursuer, if you manage to lock on to them they will become exposed. When this happens, Their detection meter will drop all the way down to discreet to the point if your pursuers move any more after that moment in high profile, they will initiate a chase.

If a Player can target their Pursuer, their Pursuer's detection meter will instantly drop to extremely lower, and if they use high profile will start a chase with their target. The negative about this perk is this tells Pursers that you are in fact a player and not a NPC because they can't lock-on, or in fact play the game itself.

Targets

As stated above, targets are obtained by locking on to personas that you see in conjunction to using the compass to pin point and identify the players out of all the NPCs. Once you have locked on to an actual player, you will proceed with regular wanted procedures.

The ideals of Assassinate are to not react to a target's lock-ons to their persona and when their purser chooses a new target, quickly lock-on to their ex-purser, and make them their target. Because your detection meter doesn't lower/raise when you don't have a target, some Players try a non-triggered chase, where it comes down to the Player who wants a fight or is just teasing.
