The Abenaki are a people indigenous to the northeastern United States.

History

Unlike the Iroquois, the Abenaki lacked a strong central authority, allowing the British colonists to settle on their land without much resistance. Initially the Abenaki tried to remain neutral as the French and Indian War broke out, but conflict became inevitable and they mostly chose to side with the French Army. During the war, members of the Abenaki, Shawnee and Lenape Nations worked together with Kaniehtí:io and Haytham Kenway during the attack on the Braddock Expedition.
