Assignment evaluations

• Forlì - Assignment I: Overall, I was impressed with the Apprentice's work. He worked in a fast, purposeful manner and did a nice job with the article. Images were good choices, and the content was thorough. However, I did notice a large amount of spelling/grammar mistakes, which could have been fixed with more careful editing. I also noticed some MoS stuff and sourcing stuff that needed fixing, but still a good first assignment and worthy of a promotion. --Nostalgia ^{Let’s talk.} 13:59, March 31, 2012 (UTC)

<BlaiddDdraig> When you first joined here, what was the hardest aspect for you to grasp, what mistakes did you make? <BlaiddDdraig> Excluding yours (above answer), what do you think is the most difficult thing for new editors to get the hang of here, whether it be a editing skill, policy/rules, or just the way things are done here? <Odranoelluta> Sure <Odranoelluta> ummm...The first thing everyone new does here is just jump at things..they dont read the policies at all, I think.. <BlaiddDdraig> Oh shit, those were 2 questions <Odranoelluta> i know i didnt at first..then slowly i started goofing around and doing things in the pages and slowly learned..the hardest thing for me was the templates..it was confusing.the war, battle, timeline etc..it was pretty hard to grasp the structure of the page..but after a couple of days i got hang of it <BlaiddDdraig> Alrighty <BlaiddDdraig> If you came across a page titled “AC is awesome”, and notice that it was created by a user, what would you do? <Odranoelluta> a page?..it has happened a couple of times already..i first leave a message for the users to suggest them to make a blog instead and advice them not to make pages for such things but only for the canonical subjects...and then i'd add the delete template on the page,i guess <BlaiddDdraig> Okay <BlaiddDdraig> What would you say is your specialty, e.g: revamps, templates, images, information, ect? <Odranoelluta> templates, and information...I'd love to do revamps if the article needed it..like the Synch Nexus article..it was not adequate and lacked certain things..so i basically minor revamped it..templates because to me they are different then just basic editing..it's kinda like very very minor pogramming..and i love codes..you need to know the structure and correct way to use it..that's why i <Odranoelluta> love Vatsa's edits <BlaiddDdraig> Mhm <BlaiddDdraig> Are you aware of the manual of style, such as when to use bolding and italics, how to correctly write a header, and what tense or formatting to write an article in? <Odranoelluta> I have read the policies a couple of times and still read them if i'm confused..and I refer to them to new-comers(even newer than me :))...when i first started editing, i noticed eveything was in past tense, so i just went with the flow not wanting to upset the structure..but later found out it was one of the policies..i know we use italics for English equivalents of foreign names of places <Odranoelluta> etc..and as for bold we use in the introductory line of the article of the same name..of course it's not limited to these uses only, it can be used in emphasis in trivia and other places as well <BlaiddDdraig> Alright <BlaiddDdraig> Do you fully understand the meaning of the words “Revamp” and “Stub”, so you know what pages do and don’t need the templates? <Odranoelluta> and i didn't get the header part!!.. <BlaiddDdraig> Doesn't matter <Odranoelluta> Revamp means an article that it needs to be written in the manual of style, i know there are different levels of revamps too..Stub is article, though present, does not contain adequate or satisfactory facts or information <Odranoelluta> ohh <BlaiddDdraig> Hmm? <Odranoelluta> Blaid? <BlaiddDdraig> "ohh" what? <Odranoelluta> i just saw the "Doesn't matter" part <Odranoelluta> hehe <BlaiddDdraig> Ah <BlaiddDdraig> Final question for the Editing section <BlaiddDdraig> Is there any particular edit you’ve made that you are especially proud of, and would like us to analyse as an example of your best work? <BlaiddDdraig> Yo? <Odranoelluta> well, i've made of couple of edits though i was just testing waters and updating my skills as an editor..as i've said i've done the Synch Nexus( though of course it has been edited a no. of times), i've added some information on the Book Shops page..I've created two pages, though both of them were about voice actors(Tony Calabrata and Gianpaolo Venuta) and i dont think they were that hard <Odranoelluta> haha..umm I've added a bit to the The End of the line and French and Indian war articles too..though none can be said to be an example of best work! <BlaiddDdraig> Righto <BlaiddDdraig> Next is Community <Odranoelluta> okay <BlaiddDdraig> If you were granted the same rights as Staff, how would you use them? <Odranoelluta> Sorry Blaid..This question has bummed me..umm..I really don't exactly know the total priveledges and rights of the staff are..could you expand on it? :S <BlaiddDdraig> Well you mostly get a say on the future of the Wiki. Such as implementing and testing new ideas, and working out kinks. Take our new Fanon section, the few who were interested in the project all worked together to get it started. So ywah, stuff like that. <Odranoelluta> Well I'd definitely promote it among my friends, well you can do it even if you are non-staff I suppose..umm...I'd really really promote the new fanon section though..it's sure to draw many new users,I'd write blogs and news articles promoting it..as for new ideas, i don't have them now :D..I'd love to do Scripting though, the Wikia's CSS and JS page, and add tweaks I'd things would <Odranoelluta> help..this is the best i can come up with right now <Odranoelluta> this question is like a beauty pageant ques hehe..and i don't know the politically correct answer :S <BlaiddDdraig> It's all good <BlaiddDdraig> Referring to the aforementioned new user having trouble with a certain aspect of the Wiki; how would you help them overcome this problem? <Odranoelluta> umm..aside from the welcome message they get at the start, realy really help them notice the policies of the wiki and encourage them to read them thoroughly, may be with another message solely for that..and I do this wheneve I can and I know others do it though but leave a message for them whenever they make an edit that goes against these, so that they don't do it again..I know you've <Odranoelluta> added the "wiki rules" now in the "On the Wiki" header on the main page but i still think i don't get noticed much..and I really would encourage new users to play and tweak with sandboxes <BlaiddDdraig> Righto <BlaiddDdraig> The user who created the “AC is awesome” page, has left you a message asking why you tagged it for deletion, how would you respond? <Odranoelluta> I would reply him explaining that the page has been tagged for deletion because pages are not the proper way to broadcast one's opinions and feelings, but to use blog posts and Forums for such things..and explain that pages are used only for strict AC Universe related things and that they are only used for canonical purposes <BlaiddDdraig> Alright, just wanna take a quick pause with a side question <BlaiddDdraig> What country are you from? <Odranoelluta> Nepal..just between two giants India and China <BlaiddDdraig> Oooh, yeah. Mt.Everest! <BlaiddDdraig> Onward then <Odranoelluta> okies <BlaiddDdraig> A person has left you an insulting message on your talk page for no apparent reason, how do you react? <Odranoelluta> haha..it has already happened..first I retorted back..then thougt I would try to be civilised and reply, which I pretty much did..on the third though, I let the staffs hanlde him..I really try to be friendly and civilised when interacting with others, but sometimes it just gets too much, and I refrain trying to start a war and keep quite and leave it too the authorities, and sometimes <Odranoelluta> wikistaff hehe... <Odranoelluta> *handle <BlaiddDdraig> Ahh yeah, I saw that. Anyway <BlaiddDdraig> You notice a feud between two users that has gone unnoticed for quite some time, what would you do to resolve the conflict? <Odranoelluta> Try to do the sensible thing and help them communicate in a civil way..most of the times during feuds like these, when you comment in the middle it looks like you're taking a side but really it needs to be done because it can go ugly and make the environment unsuitable for working..so i'd help them communicate because as a third party..well, if one of them is plain wrong, then he's wrong..it <Odranoelluta> depends upon the situation, I suppose <BlaiddDdraig> Mhm <BlaiddDdraig> You suspect a person of medal/badge abusing/hunting, what do you do? <Odranoelluta> hey blaid can I take 2 min brk?..gotta go open the door <Odranoelluta> badge hunting.hmm...I have to say, it's luring to most people..I would first politely ask leave a message explaining badge hunting is frowned upon and it leaves a bad image.and if, he doesn't listen to the advice like any sensible person would, i'd report it to one of the staffs in case it gets too much,though i think, this would be a rare case <BlaiddDdraig> Ahuh <BlaiddDdraig> You have been accused of being rude and insulting to another person, upon review of your message, you find that you were in fact quite harsh. Yet you believe that what you said was justified, either because you or somebody else has had problems with them in the past, or you straight out think what you said was necessary.
