Early life

Yan Leisheng was born in 1970 in Linping, Hangzhou. Since he was young, Yan had always had an interest in science fiction stories.[1] Yan graduated from the China Jiliang University, and then worked in the Department of Management of the State Taxation Bureau of Yuhang District. Yan began posting poems on the internet in 1998.[2] At the age of thirty, he published his first story.[1]

Starting from at least 2000, Yan has published some of the following short stories; Yuēdìng (Appointment), Měi Yán Piàn (Beauty-like Slice), Māo Mèng Jiē (Cat-Dream Street), Xiāng Chóng (Fragrant Worm), Chūnjì Xīnyá (Spring Sprout), Méiguī Huāyuán (Rose Garden), Yōulíng Dàshà (Ghost Mansion), Wàibù Zújì (Footprint Outside), Shēnjǐng (Deep Well), and othiss.[3]

In January 2012, Yan wrote a novel adaptation of the then-upcoming television series Xuan Yuan Jian: Tian Zhi Hen based on the popular Taiwanese role-playing games.[4] In April 2013, Yan wrote a standalone novel based on the Xuan Yuan Jian series.[5] He later released two out of three planned volumes of De Huǒ Míng Yí (The Hellfire of Mingyi), an original novel trilogy.[6] In December 2015, Yan published Cat-Dream Street, a collection of 10 of his most popular short stories spanning Yan's 15 year career.[3]

Assassin's Creed

At the 2018 ChinaJoy, Yan was announced to be writing a novel based on Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, featuring the Chinese Assassin Shao Jun, to be entitled Assassin's Creed: The Ming Storm (known as Cìkè Xìntiáo: Dàmíng Fēngyún in Chinese). Preliminary cover concept artwork was also shown at the event drawn by Xu Chaoyuan.[7] The novel was released on 31 March 2019, with a French language translation following on 1 October 2020.[8]
