Wang Chengye (王承業) was a Tang general and the governor of Taiyuan Commandery during the 8th century.
He knew about the existence of the Golden Turtles and wanted to be among them. During the An Lushan Rebellion, he was the internal support of the eunuch Bian Lingcheng who was inserted in Gao Xianzhi's army. [citation needed]
While Gao Xianzhi was guarding Tongguan, he received a letter from Yan Jiming and Li E, related to Yan Gaoqing started the an incident at Tumen Pass and hoping to get a response from Gao Xianzhi's troops. Wang Chengye volunteered to go there, Gao Xianzhi ordered him to lead troops to Taiyuan to respond. [citation needed]
After Li E traveled to Taiyuan, he met Wang Chengye with his troops outside the city. He instructed Li E to be a suspicious person and ordered to arrest him.[1] Interrogating Li E, he revealed that he was unwilling to succumb to Gao Xianzhi, and let his trusted soldiers to detain him. He went to Chang'an to report to Bian Lingcheng and Yang Guozhong, as a springboard to promote the Golden Turtles members.[2]
