The Vipers was a group of bandits who operated in Boeotia, Greece during the Peloponnesian War.
Using the abandoned Temple of Athena Itonia as their base, the Vipers coerced the poet Orchimedes to steal a lyre belonging to his mother Praxilla. After stealing the lyre, Orchimedes, accompanied by Praxilla's servant Ismene, brought it to the Vipers, only for him to be held hostage at their hideout. The misthios Kassandra, having learned of Orchimedes' whereabouts from Ismene, travelled to the camp, eliminating the bandits and freeing Orchimedes.[1]
