Vasco da Gama (born around 1460 – 24 December 1524 in Kochi, India) was a Portuguese explorer,
one of the most successful in the European Age of Discovery and the commander of the first ships to sail directly from Europe to India.
After Cabral's failure, King Manuel of Portugal sent Vasco Da Gama with 800 men strong to Calicut. Da Gama was to carry out what Cabral failed, ridding the city of assassins.
