The Umayyad Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus, is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world, located in the rich district of the city of Damascus and is considered the fourth-holiest place in Islam. It was constructed on the site of an ancient Christian basilica dedicated to John the Baptist between 706 and 715. The mosque is especially known for its three minarets, the Minaret of the Bride, the Minaret of Jesus and the Minaret of Quayt Bey.
