The Tōdai-ji (English: Eastern Great Temple) is a Buddhist temple in Nara, Japan.
History
Upon arriving at Japan, Chinese monk Jianzhen established an ordination platform at the temple, in order to both give the Bodhisattva Precepts to the Japanese royal family and to help the monks of Japan modernize.[1]
