Tyre is one of the cities Altaïr visited during his adventures in the game Altaïr's Chronicles. It is notable for housing two of the Templars' major bases of operations: the Stronghold and Hospital.
In 1190, Altaïr visited the city three times. He first visited the city and infiltrated the Templar hospital in order to kill Roland Napule and take the second key to the Temple of the Sand. During his second visit, he attacked the heavily protected Templar Stronghold and nearly killed Basilisk. The third time he was in the city, he tried to save Adha from the Templars, making his way to dock area. There, he finally killed Basilisk, but was unable to save the woman, who was taken by a ship to an area unknown.
History
Tyre is a city located in southern Lebanon. To this day, Tyre still exists in the same spot and is now known as Sur, yet the character of the city has changed, however. In ancient times it was situated on an island, but from the time of Alexander the Great, the city has been linked to the mainland by a dike. Tyre was founded around 2750 BC according to Herodotus and it appears on monuments as early as 1300 BC. Philo of Byblos, in Eusebius, quotes the antiquarian authority Sanchuniathon, stating that it was first occupied by Hypsuranius. Sanchuniathon's work is said to be dedicated to "Abibalus king of Berytus", possibly the Abibaal who was king of Tyre. There are ten Amarna letters dated 1350 BC from the mayor, Abi-Milku, written to Akenaten. The subject is often water, wood, and the Habiru overtaking the countryside of the mainland, and how it affected the island-city.
