Trajan's Market (Italian: Mercati di Traiano) is a large complex of ruins in Rome. During the early 16th century, it was the location of a Templar Lair.

History

A fine example of the many enduring landmarks left behind by prolific Roman builder, Emperor Trajan, his Market was thought to be the world's oldest shopping mall, and when fully operational, it housed no less than 150 shops and offices.[1]

Designed by Trajan's favorite architect, Apollodorus of Damascus, between 107 and 110, it was considered one of the wonders of the ancient world, located over a 91 mile long aqueduct that provided the whole city with clean water.[1]

Trivia

  • The Mercati di Traiano was also a territory available for purchase in the Rome section of Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy.
  • Mercati di Traiano has been traditionally translated as 'Trajan's Market', though mercati is plural.
