The Artemision was a Spartan war trireme once commanded by Eurybiades during the Battle of Artemisium.
More than 50 years after the Greco-Persian Wars, the Artemision remained active and was once used by the Spartans during the Peloponnesian War. Between 429 and 422 BCE, the misthios Kassandra received a bounty placed on the Artemision. Kassandra accepted the bounty and destroyed the trieme with the Adrestia in the Aegean Sea south of Messenia. In this capacity, she recovered the ship's design for her own use.[1]
