Tjepu

Tjeupu was an Egyptian merchant who lived in Alexandria, Egypt during the 1st century BCE.

Biography

Tjepu worked as a olive oil merchant in the docks south of the city. Her son, Tefibi, aspired to be a philosopher, which she was not supportive of and believed he would not succeed as one. In 48 BCE, when Tefibi visited the beach in search of wisdom and failed to return after a period of time, Tjepi enlisted the help of the Medjay, Bayek, who promised to find Tefibi and return him to her. Tefibi indeed returned later though he suffered injuries in the process.

Sometime thereafter, Tjepu entrusted an offering to Tefibi, which he kept in his papyrus along with his notes. However, the papyrus was stolen by soldiers, who threw it onto a boat and fled to Lake Mareotis. Tjepu was enraged when she learned her offering was lost as she could not sell her olive oil without giving thanks, despite Tefibi insisting that the papyrus was stolen rather than lost. Bayek later returned to the docks, where he learned of their situation and promised to help Tefibi recover his papyrus. Later, Bayek returned to the both of them, giving Tefibi his notes and Tjepu her offerings. As Tefibi left, Tjepu exclaimed that the Greeks would never accept Tefibi as a philosopher. Bayek, however, convinced Tjepu to give Tefibi a chance and achieve his dream.
