Ezio freerunning over the Tiber

The Tiber, or Tevere, was a river that ran through the city of Rome and separated the Vaticano District from the rest of the city.

The Castel Sant'Angelo rested on the river bank, while Tiber Island, the only island upon the river, could be found further south.[1]

Bridges

There were six bridges built over the Tiber which allowed civilians to cross the river from various points within the city. Among these bridges were the Ponte Sant'Angelo and the Ponte Sisto.

However, only two of these bridges crossed the river to Tiber Island; both of which were marked with the Templar insignia. No other bridge in Rome had these symbols, despite Tiber Island housing Assassins' headquarters.

History

Ezio Auditore considered dropping the Apple into the Tiber after the confrontation in the Vatican in 1499. The following year, he made his headquarters in a store room in Tiber Island, which had several tunnel entrances submerged in the Tiber.

Whenever Ezio and Niccolo Machiavelli inducted their apprentices into the Order, the ceremony concluded with the new Assassin performing a Leap of Faith into the Tiber.

Cesare Borgia would often have the bodies of his enemies discarded into the Tiber, including his brother Juan, and Francesco Troche. In 2012, the Templars continued this practice by dumping Clay Kaczmarek's body in the Tiber after his death.[2]
