Sybaris was an ancient Greek polis in Magna Graecia, the coastal region of Southern Italy extensively populated by Greek settlers.

During the late 6th century BCE, the city was subjugated by a neighbouring polis Croton. To celebrate their victory over Sybaris, the Crotonians dedicated a tripod to the Sanctuary of Delphi in Phokis.[1]
