Supideo's shield was a small shield which once belonged to Supideo, a Lokrian man of the 5th century BCE. It was a gift from his birth parents, Ailos and Kosta, alongside an accompanying sword.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, Supideo went to the Oracle of Delphi, where he received a prophecy foretelling that his mother's blood would stain the earth and his father would scream to the gods in agony.[2] While he was away, the shield was stolen by Ailos and the Red Lake Bandits, who took it to their hideout.[1] Upon returning home, he locked himself up to divert fate and spare his parents, who believed he was overreacting. The Spartan misthios Kassandra overheard Supideo arguing with his parents as she passed through the village and offered her assistance, to which Supideo asked that she recover the sword and shield.[2]
Kassandra went to the Red Lake to look for the bandit hideout and found the bandit leader Ailos. Kassandra killed Ailos and looted Supideo's shield from her corpse. She then returned to Supideo to hand him the shield, which she kept after the ordeal was over.[1]
