Sogdia (Chinese: 粟特) was an Iranic civilization in Central Asia. Samarkand was one of its major cities.[1][2] It had a central role in connecting Middle East and China through the Silk Road, many Sogdians becoming merchants and their language established as a linga franca.[3]
