Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad de Bolívar y Palacios (24 July 1783 – 17 December 1830), generally known as Simón Bolívar, was a Venezuelan military and political leader who played a leading role in various wars for independence in South America during the early 1800s.

Commonly known as The Liberator in Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Panama, his dreams of a united South America was never fully realized.
