Shinran (親鸞, 21 May 1173 – 16 January 1263) was a Japanese Buddhist monk and the founder of what later became the Jōdo Shinshū sect of Japanese Buddhism.
Legacy
In 1582, Fujibayashi Naoe met with the monk Mitsumune to help gather support for Kyonyo taking on Wada Koretake. Mitsumune and his men recently suffered a crushing defeat and were not in any shape to fight though if Naoe retrieved a statue of Shinran taken by bandits, Mitsumume would reconsider. Finding the statue at Toneyama Post Town and upon returning it, Mitsumune instructed Naoe to take the statue to Kyonyo as he no longer felt himself a worthy protector.[1] Which she later did.[2]
