Samson and Delilah by Peter Paul Rubens

Samson (11th century BCE – 12th century BCE) is a figure in both Islam and Christianity. He was one of the last judges of the ancient Israelites, and one of the last leaders who "judged" Israel before it became a monarchy.

Mythology

Samson was a Nazirite with immense strength, however his strength came from his hair which was never cut. One day Samson's lover Delilah betrayed him and cut off his hair before throwing him to his Philistine enemies.[1]

Legacy

Around 1609, the story of Samson and Delilah inspired artist Peter Paul Rubens to paint Samson and Delilah.[2]

In 2012, Samson was one of many historical people included in the Glyph puzzles the late Assassin Clay Kaczmarek had left behind in the Animus as messages for his successor Desmond Miles to decipher. Desmond later did in September of that year.[3] Desmond solved this puzzle, which was part of a set titled "Instruments of Power" where Samson was excluded from the list of historical individuals revealed by Clay to have wielded a Sword of Eden.[2]
