Saffron

Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus that is mainly used as a food coloring or a seasoning.

History

In the early 16th century, saffron was a commodity and trade item in Italy, for it was believed to contain some healing properties. Saffron was collected by the Assassin Mentor Ezio Auditore of the Italian Brotherhood during his campaign against the Templar Cesare Borgia.[1]

The Assassins utilized it to craft one of their poisons by mixing it with nutmeg, opium, and ricinus. An Assassin team consisting of poison specialist Tessa Varzi, Francesco Vecellio, and Cipriano Enu were known to collect these ingredients on their missions.[2]
