Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus and is mainly used as a food coloring or a seasoning.
History
During the early 16th century in Rome, Italy, saffron was a commodity and trade item, believed to have contained some healing properties. Saffron was collected by the Assassin Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins during his campaign against the Templar Cesare Borgia.[1]
Saffron was also collected during the missions of an Assassin group, consisting of Francesco Vecellio, Tessa Varzi, and Cipriano Enu. Saffron was used as part of creating and filling a number of poison vials for their missions.[2]
