Richard Boyle, 1st Earl of Burlington, 2nd Earl of Cork (1612 – 1698) was an Anglo-Irish nobleman who served as Lord High Treasurer of Ireland.

In 1667, Boyle bought a mansion in Piccadilly Circus from Sir John Denham. The property, which then became known as Burlington House, changed hands over the ensuing years until the British government acquired it in 1854 and made it into the headquarters for the Royal Society of London.[1]
